Roku Crosses 90 Million Streaming Households

Roku reached more than 90 million streaming households in the first week of the new year.

For the third quarter, streaming tech giant Roku reported streaming households of 85.5 million. According to Roku’s Tuesday announcement, it ended 2024 with 89.8 million streaming households, adding the remainder that pushed it over the 90-million mark in the first seven days of January.

“Roku’s extensive scale sets us apart in the streaming industry, with more engagement than any other TV OS platform in the U.S.,” Roku CEO and founder Anthony Wood said. “Thanks to our laser focus on simplifying and enhancing the streamer’s journey, Roku is the preferred choice for millions of viewers. I’m grateful to our customers, partners, advertisers, and employees for helping us reach this notable milestone.”

When unveiling its Q3 2024 results back in October, the streaming tech company said it will stop regularly reporting its streaming households — saying that it’s no longer a relevant metric — similar to Netflix’s announced plans to discontinue reporting subscriber figures quarterly.

At that time, Roku said it “will continue to grow streaming households” and will announce key milestones such as reaching the 100 million mark, a metric it expects to hit by early 2026.

“While a large portion of our Streaming Household growth is in our international markets, the majority of our Platform revenue is currently generated in the U.S.,” Roku said in its Q3 shareholder letter. “Therefore, as we continue to grow internationally, Streaming Household growth is not representative of Platform revenue growth.”
