‘Squid Game’ Was 2024’s Most-Viewed Series in a Single Week With 4.9 Billion Minutes Watched, Per Nielsen

Squid Game” was the most-viewed series in a single week in 2024, with 4.9 billion minutes watched between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29, per Nielsen.

Season 2 of the Korean deathmatch drama debuted on Netflix on Dec. 26, so that whopping viewership number includes people catching up on the first season as well as bingeing the second. Those minutes viewed are spread across 16 episodes of “Squid Game” in total, but Season 2 accounted for more than 4 billion of those viewing minutes, from Dec. 26 to Dec. 29. Of course, viewership has continued to grow throughout 2025.

While “Squid Game” more than doubled the second-most-watched series that week, seven other film and TV titles notched more than a billion minutes viewed from Dec. 23 to Dec. 29. Netflix’s “Virgin River” nabbed 2.2 billion minutes viewed (across 64 episodes), Dwayne Johnson’s Christmas pic “Red One” got 1.8 billion and Netflix’s TSA thriller “Carry-On” ended up with 1.5 billion. The other titles to cross a billion are “The Six Triple Eight,” “Bluey,” “Landman” and “The Equalizer.”

As previously reported, “Squid Game” Season 2 became the third most-watched TV season on Netflix, trailing behind only its own first season (265 million) and “Wednesday” (252 million). Four days after its Dec. 26 premiere, “Squid Game” Season 2 had amassed 68 million total views in four days, becoming Netflix’s biggest TV debut ever. A week later, it had picked up 126.2 million views across 11 days, more than any Netflix series has ever achieved in that amount of time. Suffice to say, the series spent another week atop the non-English TV top 10 list, with Season 1 resurfacing at No. 3.
