“The Wild Robot” composer Kris Bowers and musicians Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross led the winners at the 6th annual Society of Composers and Lyricists awards.
Reznor and Ross took home the top prize for outstanding original song for “Compress/Repress” from “Challengers.” Ross also took home an award for his work on “Shogun.”
Composer Daniel Blumberg won outstanding original score for an independent film for “The Brutalist,” while Diane Warren took top honors for her song “The Journey.” This is her third SCL win.
Composer Harry Gregson-Williams and director Ridley Scott were presented with the Society’s spirit of collaboration award. The duo have worked on seven films including “Gladiator II,” “The Martian” and “Kingdom of Heaven.” Past award recipients include Thomas Newman and Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee, Carter Burwell and the Coen Brothers, and Justin Hurwitz and Damien Chazelle.
Jeff Beal was given the SCL’s Jury Award for the classic 1920 silent film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,” which he premiered and performed live to picture in June at Carnegie Hall.

The awards were handed out at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles.
In a speech to the audience, SCL President Ashley Irwin explained the awards celebrate not just the artistry and achievements of its community, but also its remarkable spirit of resilience and hope in the face of hardship. He went on to relay a heartfelt message acknowledging the gravity of recent challenges, notably the devastating fires that ravaged Los Angeles and deeply impacted the close-knit SCL community. “As we celebrate the dedication and creativity of our fellow composers and lyricists, we also reflect on the larger context of hardship and loss that surrounds us. The catastrophic fires have left an indelible mark on our city, its residents, and our community. Yet, in this adversity, we find strength, and we find inspiration,” said Irwin. “This year’s SCL Awards is not only a celebration of personal accomplishment, but also of resilience, hope, and the collective strength that binds us together in the face of adversity.”
