A$AP Rocky Charged With Assault by Swedish Prosecutors

A$AP Rocky has been charged with assault in Sweden stemming from a confrontation in Stockholm on June 30.

The American rapper has been in custody in the Swedish capital since July 3. Prosecutors said Thursday that they would press charges against the 30-year-old, who maintains that he was acting in self-defense when he punched a man on the street.

Two other men are also being charged in connection with the alleged assault.

“I have today commenced criminal proceedings against the three individuals suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation,” public prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in a statement. “In reaching this conclusion, I have studied the videos made available to the inquiry.

“It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet,” Suneson said. “In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”

Earlier this month, A$AP Rocky released video footage of the argument on his Instagram account to prove his innocence. TMZ has previously released clips of the incident. The footage shows him and his friends repeatedly asking the two men to stop following them. A$AP Rocky wrote a caption commenting the video saying that one of the men “hits security in face with headphones then follow us,” and said “Im innocent. They trynna arrest me out here now, SMH.”

The rapper commented another clip saying “So a few drug addicts are not my fans. We don’t know these guys and we didn’t want trouble, they followed us for 4 blocks, and they were slapping girls butts who passed, give me a break.”

A$AP Rocky, who was due to perform across Europe in July, notably at the popular Sonar Festival in Barcelona, cancelled the remainder of his tour dates on July 10 as he was being detained in a Swedish jail. He had dates in Ukraine, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
