Chloe Grace Moretz Loves a Twinning Moment with Her Mom

For some, the perfect closet filled is with easy pieces that elevate your style and take you season-to-season, sans the stress of building a transitional wardrobe or burning a hole in your wallet. For actress Chloe Grace Moretz, it’s all about the power suit. “They’re comfortable—kind of like pajamas, really—and is my lazy-girl outfit,” she recently told ELLE.com at the grand opening of Maje’s new flagship shop on New York City’s fifth avenue. “Suits make you look way more stylish and put together than when you wear anything else.”

On this breezy fall night, Moretz’s “lazy-girl” look of choice was the Maje Jessil Long asymmetrical plaid skirt paired with a black zip-neck turtleneck—both plucked straight from Maje’s new collection. Structured office staples and playful, laid-back athleisure pieces meet in Maje’s new collection, a marriage Moretz says she loves most about the brand.

“It feels like a departure from what they’ve done in the past, but it also feels like part of the brand’s DNA. You see the same kinds of shapes and styles they’ve been known for but there’s this nostalgic aesthetic they’re hitting perfectly,” Moretz adds. “The brand is one of the few brands I can wear with my mother. We actually enjoy the same pieces. We love a blazer look because she comes from a time that we’re now recreating and seeing everywhere. Sometimes I have to convince her to wear shoulder pads again because she’s like, “I already did that for fifteen years.’”

For Moretz, an “old-soul” at heart, it helps that the spirit of the brand is rooted in glamour, femininity, and tradition combined with a touch of modernity. “I find that I really love integrating vintage with modern. I love trying to bring through timeless pieces and putting my own spin on it,” she explains. “I also don’t like to buy all expensive designer brands, I like to try hodgepodge things together. I absolutely hate when someone wears one look, just dripping in head-to-toe designer because I think it’s important to mix it up. Fashion is supposed to be fun and it’s supposed to be silly. Maje does that well.”
