‘Supergirl’ Star Azie Tesfai Suits Up As Guardian In First Look Photo (TV News Roundup)

The CW released the first look at Azie Tesfai’s Guardian, who will appear in the sixth and final season of “Supergirl.”

Kelly Olsen (Tesfai) will take on the mantle of Guardian in the second half of the final season. The series previously hinted that Kelly will take up the mantle left by her brother, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), which will come to fruition in the upcoming episode “Blind Spots.” Co-written by Tesfai and co-producer J. Holtham, the episode is said to address racial inequality. “Arrow” star David Ramsey will direct the episode and reprise his role of John Diggle.

“Supergirl” follows the DC character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), who balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with keeping National City safe from sinister threats as the titular superhero. The series also stars Tesfai, David Harewood, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines and Katie McGrath. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, Jessica Queller and Rob Wright serve as executive producers on the series.

The mid-season finale of “Supergirl” will air on May 11 before its three-month summer hiatus. The season will return on August 24 for the final run of the series. “Blind Spots” will air on Sept. 21.

FIRST LOOKS

Epix released a trailer for the second season of “War of the Worlds,” which premieres on June 6. Set in present-day France and the UK, the sci-fi series is a re-imagining of the classic novel written by H.G. Wells. After detecting a transmission from another galaxy, astronomers realize that they have received definitive proof of intelligent extraterrestrial life. Mankind was wiped out just a few days later by a devastating attack. Left to survive in an eerily deserted world, the remaining pockets of humanity must escape what is hell-bent on destroying them. As a tense fight to take back their planet awaits them, the second season of “War of the Worlds” will see the main characters ponder the possibility that the invaders could be human. For some, the sheer desperation to survive will lead them to contemplate sacrificing one of their own. The series will star Gabriel Byrne, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Léa Drucker, Natasha Little, Stéphane Caillard, Adel Bencherif, Ty Tennant, Stephen Campbell Moore, Bayo Gbadamosi, Aaron Heffernan and Emilie de Preissac. “War of the Worlds” is executive produced by Howard Overman, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps for Urban Myth Films in partnership with Canal Plus and Fox. The sci-fi series was produced with the support of funding from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales. Richard Clark returns to direct the first four episodes of the series, while Ben A. Williams will direct episodes five through eight.
