Uber’s New Scooters Took Over Paris Fashion Week

Fashion month is over and editors have had a few days to sort out the biggest trends to emerge from the four-city whirlwind. Marigold seems to be a frontrunner for the color next spring, while big voluminous ruffles, cargo pants, and acid wash denim (really!) are in. Also in? Electronic scooters.

Models and editors and influencers were using them to get from show to show (or just to show off) during Paris Fashion Week.

We suspect this new mode of transportation is taking off because a) anyone who has ever attended Paris fashion week knows that the car congestion is criminal and will do anything to avoid the gridlock and b) it’s a more sustainable way to ride, and fortunately, the fashion world is moving towards a greener future.

But rest assured, this is not a trend that only a few will be able to pull off (like, ahem, giant exploded ruffles). Uber has already integrated e-scooter brand JUMP in Santa Monica and have plans to onboard Lime scooters throughout the US and abroad, including the cities of Los Angeles, Berlin, Madrid, and Paris. “As we work towards having your phone replace your car, we’re thinking about all the possible times you’d hop in the car and go, and what smart, equally as convenient option we could offer to get you there instead,” said Uber Scooter Product Manager, Rhea Dookeran. And apparently, that “equally as convenient option” is the e-scooter.

Want to try it out? Once the e-scooters are available in the Uber app, you’ll see “scooter” as an option at the top left corner of the home screen. From there, you’ll see available scooters near you (see image above) and can choose to reserve one. Once the ride is complete, you can lock the scooter to any public rack in the zone shown on the app’s map. Now all we need to do is wait for them to roll out and pray to the fashion gods that sneakers are still in when the time comes 🙏.
