One of the “Game of Thrones” prequels in development at HBO, “10,000 Ships,” has found its writer.
Amanda Segel is set to pen the project, Variety has confirmed. “10,000 Ships” is one of several “Game of Thrones” projects in the works at HBO. The show would follow Princess Nymeria, who journeyed with the Rhoynar to Dorne and married Lord Mors Martell.
HBO declined to comment.
Segel’s past credits include “Person of Interest,” “The Good Wife,” “The Mist,” and “Helstrom.” She is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Myman Greenspan.
Among the other “Game of Thrones” projects is “9 Voyages,” which would center on Lord Corlys Velaryon — known as the “Sea Snake” and head of House Velaryon, husband to Rhaenys Targaryen — on the Sea Snake vessel. The most well-known nautical adventurer in all of Westeros, Lord Corlys built a house even wealthier than the Lannisters and claims the largest navy in the world. Another project, “Flea Bottom,” would take place in the poorest district of King’s Landing.
Another “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” recently started production. That series will star Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, and Fabien Frankel.
Variety previously reported on development of a series based on George R.R. Martin’s novella “Tales of Dunk and Egg” as well as an animated “Game of Thrones” project. Thus far, virtually none of the projects in development have a writer attached, with the exception of “10,000 Ships” and “9 Voyages,” which will be written by Bruno Heller.
Deadline first reported the Segel news.
