“RRR” (Roudram Ranam Rudhiram), the upcoming magnum opus from “Baahubali” filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, has announced several streaming and satellite partners.
Once the film completes its theatrical run, currently due to begin Oct. 13, it will stream in the Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages on ZEE5. On Netflix, the film will stream in Hindi, English, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish and Spanish versions.
The producers have also struck satellite carriage deals with ZEE Cinema for Hindi, Star Maa for Telugu, Star Suvarna for Kannada, Vijay for Tamil, and Asianet for Malayalam.
The film, a period action drama, stars N.T. Rama Rao Jr. (“Temper”) and Ram Charan (“Rangasthalam”) as Indian freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju respectively. The cast also includes Bollywood stars Ajay Devgn (“Tanhaji: The Unsung Hero”) and Alia Bhatt (“Gully Boy”) and international actors Ray Stevenson (the “Thor” franchise), Alison Doody (“Muse”) and Olivia Morris (“The Turtles”).
While a budget has not been revealed, it is estimated to be in the range of $55 million. “RRR” is produced by D. V. V. Danayya for DVV Entertainments (“Bharat Ane Nenu”).
The film is being made in the Telugu language and will also be released worldwide theatrically in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam-language versions.
Lyca Productions will distribute the film in Tamil Nadu, Pen Studios in North India and Hombale in Karnataka.
The film’s shoot had paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed in Oct. 2020.
Besides the popular appeal of its leads, there is tremendous anticipation for the project because of Rajamouli’s stellar track record as a filmmaker. “Baahubali: The Beginning” (2015) and “Baahubali: The Conclusion” (2017) together grossed $336 million. On its own, “Baahubali: The Conclusion” is the highest grossing film of all time in India. The franchise has spawned novels, graphic novels, an animated Amazon series, an upcoming Netflix live-action series, a video game and a VR experience.
