Jodie Turner-Smith is in talks to join the cast of Netflix’s “White Noise,” director Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel.
Should the deal close, Turner-Smith will act alongside Greta Gerwig and Adam Driver, who boarded the movie earlier this year.
Netflix declined to comment.
The satirical “White Noise” follows Jack (who will be played by Driver), a professor who made a name for himself by teaching Hitler studies at a liberal arts college in Middle America. With his fourth wife Babette (portrayed by Gerwig) and their kids, they attempt to navigate the usual rocky passages of family life. That’s put to the test when an “airborne toxic event” disrupts their existence and forces them to face the threat of death together. It’s unknown who Turner-Smith would play in the film.
“White Noise” marks Baumbach’s third collaboration with Netflix, having previously directed the Oscar-nominated “Marriage Story” and “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).” In addition to directing “White Noise,” he is adapting the screenplay.
Turner-Smith’s breakout film role was opposite Daniel Kaluuya in Universal’s romantic drama “Queen & Slim.” She recently appeared in the Michael B. Jordan-led action-thriller “Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse,” which was originally set up at Paramount and later sold to Amazon Studios. (It premiered on Prime Video in April.) Her next big vehicle is “Anne Boleyn,” a British limited series in which she portrays the second wife of King Henry VIII.
