Facebook Advertising Head Carolyn Everson Quits

Carolyn Everson, who led Facebook’s advertising teams as VP of the social giant’s Global Business Group, is leaving the company after a little more than a decade.

Everson announced that she had resigned from the company in a Facebook post Wednesday. Her exit comes after Facebook chief revenue officer David Fischer, to whom she reported, previously announced that he would be leaving toward the end of 2021.

Last week, Facebook promoted veteran exec Marne Levine to the position of chief business officer, succeeding Fischer. Levine previously was VP of global partnerships and business development.

“After 10 1/2 years, I have left Facebook. I am extremely proud of what we set out to accomplish but way more proud of my team and the support we showed each other, especially in difficult times,” she wrote in the post. “I always said no one will ever mention at my funeral the amount of revenue I oversaw. But hopefully one day someone will say my legacy at Facebook was in how I showed up for my team, for our clients and for our industry. I am very much looking forward to starting a new chapter.”

Asked for comment about Everson’s departure, a Facebook rep said, “We wish Carolyn the best as she moves into a new chapter. We are grateful for her contributions.”

Nicola Mendelsohn, head of the Europe, Middle East and Africa region for Facebook’s Global Business Group, will take over Everson’s duties on an interim basis.

Facebook reported $84.2 billion in ad revenue for full-year 2020, up from $3.15 billion in 2011 when Everson joined the company.

Prior to joining Facebook, Everson was corporate VP at Microsoft overseeing global ad sales and strategy. Prior to that, she worked at Viacom as COO of MTV Networks ad sales and earlier in her career worked at Primedia, Zagat, Walt Disney Imagineering and Accenture.
