Weekly Commentary: The BAFTA nominations have been announced, but that came after Oscars voting closed.
The full commentary breakdown is in this week’s Variety Awards Circuit Column and will be reflected on each category page, which will be fully updated by Friday, Jan. 20.
All signs point to Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front,” Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” all dominating the Oscar noms with eight apiece. The Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is projected to garner seven noms, followed by Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” with six and Todd Field’s “Tár” at five.
The Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24. Happy speculation.
