Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are calling on others to lend their support to the victims of the wildfires raging across Southern California.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who live with their two children in Montecito, Calif., posted a statement Thursday on their official website that reads: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighborhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued.”
The statement includes a list of organizations and companies assisting with the relief efforts, such as José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen, which is serving meals to both first responders and victims of the fire; the Animal Wellness Foundation and Compton Cowboys for animals evacuated from the fires; Baby2baby, which is providing essential supplies and emergency kits to families in need; and Airbnb, which has partnered with 211LA to offer free, temporary housing.
“If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do,” Harry and Markle wrote. “And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating.”

They continued, “Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”
Over 15,000 acres have burned in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu since a fire started Tuesday morning, while in East of L.A., the Eaton Fire has burned through more than 10,000 acres. A third blaze, the Hurst Fire, has burned through more than 700 acres at top of the San Fernando Valley. The fires continue to rage across the Los Angeles area, destroying hundreds of buildings and causing mass evacuations.
